About Our Winning Project

Some travel the world to find ancestral roots, to visit historical landmarks, or to expand their horizons. Dave Sigman ventures the globe to find wine. Mr. Sigman has filled his days of retirement – and his garage – with wine. This wine enthusiast found himself in need of a more accessible, spacious, custom wine room that would be ideal for proper storage; specifically, a room where he didn’t park his car. We told him we could handle it.

Project Challenges

The biggest challenge in this project was simply where to make the addition. The city enforces strict deed and building restrictions, and lot coverage issues made it nearly impossible to find space to add onto the home. “Where does this piece go?” Mr. Sigman left it up to us to creatively solve this puzzle.

We knew the wine room needed to be accessible. We knew it needed to possess a specific atmosphere for proper storage so the wine could age gracefully. And we knew that restrictions wouldn’t allow us to put it above the garage, in the backyard, or attached to the basement.

We went back to the drawing board.

Project Solutions

award_wine2The solution was right in front of our eyes. On the front, right side of the house was an inset niche. By filling this out, we expanded the size of Mr. Sigman’s office, creating the perfect space for his wine room!

In order to seamlessly blend the addition with the original architecture of the home, we made this a two-story addition, giving an upstairs bedroom more closet space – which solved an additional storage problem for the family that we weren’t originally even aware of!

award_wine1In keeping with our mission of going the extra mile for our customers, we created a garden outside of the addition and installed a new, energy-efficient front window for the family, adding even more to the value of their home.

The addition blends so seamlessly into the existing home, neighbors can’t even tell the difference. But the guests inside at Mr. Sigman’s wine gathering raise their glasses and toast their gracious host and his beautiful, new wine room.

Here’s to another happy client. Cheers!
